Disappointment All Around for Rebels
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels played their first game of the Wingham International Silver Stick. Turns out the freezing rain, driving snow and many accidents on the drive there were not the worst part of the night.
Once the Rebels arrived at the arena, they had no jump. Whether the white knuckle drive or the overconfidence in facing a team who they had beaten handily 3 times already this season was the issue, Rebels weren't the first to the puck, they weren't playing as a team and they were not the better team on the ice.
Rebels did manage to score first when in the final minute of the first period Brandon Stewart found the back of the net with assist to Austin McComb. Rebels scored again when Jordan Beirnes and Stewart assisted Mason Hanna. It wasn't enough however, as the Rebels found themselves tied going into the third.
The third found the Ironmen penalty box overflowing, but it didn't seem to matter. The Rebels continued to scramble and despite one and two man advantages, they couldn't hold the puck in the Wingham end. With just under 4 minutes left, the Rebels found themselves in a 5 - 2 deficit. But, they didn't give up and they kept trying til the final buzzer, but they couldn't make anything happen for themselves.
Rebels now have a chance to regroup from the 5 - 2 loss to Wingham and prepare for their next 2 games of the Silverstick which are coming up on Saturday - 10:45 in Blythe and 4:30 back in Wingham.
Here's hoping for better weather and a return to the hard working, solid passing teamwork we have seen from this Rebel team for much of the season.
