WALTER GRETZKY GOLD MEDAL WINNERS
The Country Charm Bantam B girls win gold in Brantford at the Walter Gretzky tournament.

The girls had 3 round robin games to get to the final.  Started off Friday at 12:00 against the North Halton Twisters, they started the tournament strong with a 3-0 win.  Maizy Hutchinson putting 2 past the tender and Jamie Gilchrist getting one, assists to Meghan prentice, Kaitlyn Nickason and Tara Meikle.  Shut out credit to Laura Naves.

After checking into the hotel and having some down time they hit the ice to take on the Kitchener Rangers at 9:30 PM.  The Rebels left the ice with a 2-1 win goals scored by Maggie Klunder and Tara Meikle assisted by Jamie Gilchrist and Maggie Klunder.  Great job by Alyssa Turnbull to keep us in the game when we were running out of steam.

The girls had a relaxing Saturday morning as they didn’t hit the ice until 2:00 they likely needed this after the late game the night before. The Ayr Rockets kept us on our toes, we ended the game with a 3-1 win, goals to Aubrey Urbshott, Tara Meikle and Kaitlyn Nickason assists to Nickason, Emma MacDonnell and Tara Meikle.  This win put the Rebels in the gold medal game on Sunday at 4:00.

After an inspiring speech by coach Dennis the girls hit the ice determined to win the gold, we scored in the 1st on an awkward bounce on a shoot in by Kaitlyn Nickason.  This proved to be the only goal scored this game, Kitchener was determined to find the back of our net, Alyssa Turnbull had to keep on her game to keep the puck out of the net.  Special thanks to Kitchener for their great sportsmanship both teams gather for a big group picture after the medals were passed out!

The next 10 days are filled with lots of hockey for this group of girls, as they continue their series with Walkerton to see who will qualify for provincials and also a series with Twin Centres to see who will represent the Central West Division at the LLFHL year end tournament.

Let’s carry on this high from the weekend through our final playoff games!!!  GO REBELS!!!
