The very close battle between our two ‘Air Tech
Mechanical’ BANTAM LL teams had the REBELS fans on the edge of their seats
until the final buzzer. It looks like these
boys all enjoy playing against their friends, and the energy that both teams brought
to the ice was exciting to watch!
(If this is what their Friday night hockey will look like
in 10 years, they will have a blast!)
When the LL1 and LL2 teams met in Markdale last Sunday, the action began as soon as the puck was dropped. There were many scoring attempts at both ends in the 1st period, but D.J. Gamble (LL1) and Jason Rudolph-MacLeod (LL2) kept their nets clean.
The ‘sharp shooting’ offense got fired up, and the 2nd period was another story entirely. Jake Moran won the faceoff and got the puck to Wesley ‘Snipes’ Houston for a top-shelf shot from the slot at 13:30.
Curtis Wade answered right back at 12:11. Then a pair of ‘Jacks’ added two more goals for LL1 … Diaz at 11:17, and Kivell at 10:39.
That was enough of that!!! Wes went bar-down with assists to Jake and Alex DeJong at 5:52.
Tanner Timbers got the puck over the goal line in a scramble at the net, assisted by Christian Routenburg-Evans and Austin King at 5:19.
Jake found Wes for the shot … and the hat-trick was complete with a short-handed goal at 4:48.
But Wes wasn’t done yet! He sent another quick goal in right off the faceoff, assisted by Christian and Jake at 2:45, and LL2 went into the flood with a 5-3 lead.
With 15 minutes on the clock in period 3, there was still lots of hockey left … and LL1 got going again!
Our hard working little defencemen were no match for big Curtis, who cruised in for another unassisted goal at 11:45, and Charlie Scott tied it up at 8:50.
Kinger sent a beauty pass over to Tanner who took the shot and then managed to get his own rebound in at 8:40. That lead didn’t last long, as Landon Heathers skated through and tied the score again at 7:25.
The next 7 minutes went end to end with both Jason and D.J. putting on a show. It looked like we would be heading for O.T. until Pearce Lacey went coast to coast and buried the game winner with just 23 seconds left on the clock. We pulled our goalie, but just couldn’t get that tying goal in time.
Final Score in this WOAA Elite Playoff Game : LL1 – 7 LL2 – 6
Our boys are heading to Ripley for their 2nd playoff match up with the Wolves for Valentines Day, and will face our LL1 team again this Saturday in Tara at 11:30am.
GOOD LUCK REBELS!
