Rebels Win in Over-Time!!
The Township of Chatsworth "Air-Tech Mechanical" Bantam Boys LL1 played the AEMHA Ice Dogs in playoff action on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Tara Arena. The Rebels knew that they would need to raise the bar for this game as the Ice Dogs were undefeated in Regular Season Play. Both teams came out strong in the first period and the Rebels started setting up opportunities right away. It took about seven minutes to get the formula just right.
Curtis Wade scored a beauty, assisted by Dalan Frook and Pearce Lacey. That proved to be the only goal in period one.
The Rebels scored again at 12:09 in period two when Pearce Lacey put a hard shot through lots of traffic and found the back of the net, unassisted. Dalan Frook intercepted the opposition's pass and made a speedy delivery to the Ice Dog's net at 7:06. The 3 - 0 lead lasted only 4 seconds. Yes, you read it correctly....4 seconds. The Ice Dogs scored a second goal during the same shift. The Rebels took a deep breath and got back in the game. No more goals were scored by either team after that, in period two.
At 13:24 in period three, the Ice Dogs struck again to tie the game up at 3 - 3. It was a new game. Rebel's netminder DJ Gamble made some nice saves and kept his team moving forward. The defensive squad took away other scoring opportunities and looked for an opening. The forwards continued to intercept passes and back check with authority. The third period ended in a 3 -3 tie.
The over-time period started much the same as the first period of the game. Both teams still had loads of energy and were trying to set something up. In the end, it was the Rebels who created an opening. Curtis Wade rushed the puck into the Ice Dogs' end and made a beautiful pass to Charlie Scott who was more than ready to drive it home with 6:37 left in the over-time period.
