After a
successful weekend of team building at the
Bobby Orr Classic in Parry Sound
on the October 14th weekend, the
Horton Concrete Novice Rep
Rebels were eager to open the regular season. Friday night the team made the long
drive to Lion’s Head to face the
Bruce Peninsula Predators. It was
a very evenly fought battle from the get go; with both goalies making many
great saves.
Despite some strong back checking by multiple different players, the Rebels found themselves trailing 1-0 at the end of 1 period. The teams traded chances until Grayson Gibbons was able to bang in a loose puck on a goalmouth scramble late in the third. Assists to Cohen Cook and Hayden Curtis. Both goalies shut the door after that to end the game with an exciting 1-1 tie.
Saturday saw the Rebels play their home opener in front of a good crowd in Keady vs the Shallow Lake Lakers. Once again it was a very hard-fought game with both teams trading multiple scoring chances. Unfortunately it was the Lakers that capitalized on a goal mouth scramble to score the game’s only goal. Final score a 1-0 loss. Rebels goaltender Grady Fritsch continued his strong play to start the regular season after a gruelling tournament vs B and BB teams in Parry Sound. Grady faced over 150 shots in the 3 games and kept the scores presentable. The Rebels were able to score twice in their game with Essa during the tourney, Colton King, unassisted and Cohen Cook, assisted by Olivia Stutzman. As mentioned it was a great weekend for players and parents as everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves at what for most players, was their first overnight away tournament.
Great job to start the season, looking forward to continued development and strong team play!
