Midget Cs End Season as WOAA Champs
The Jennifer Tedford Remax Midget C Rebels were crowned White Division Champions in their year end WOAA playoff tournament on the weekend.  The girls snuck into the championship game with a win, a loss, and a tie in round robin play, but came away with a convincing 5-0 win in the final versus South Bruce.

In game #1 on Saturday, the Rebels defeated the South Bruce Blades 2-0.  The goals for the Rebels were nearly carbon copies of one another, coming just 23 seconds apart midway through the first period.  Madison Vokes netted both for the Rebels, with linemates Grace Kivell and Samantha DeJong picking up the assists on each.

A few hours later, the Rebels played their second game of the tournament versus Kincardine.  The Rebels scored early on an end to end rush by Aly Airdrie, who fired a beautiful shot gloveside past the Kinucks goalie.  Kyla Thalen and Brittany Batterman picked up the assists on the play.  Unfortunately, as the game wore on, the Rebels began to look a little weary and they gave up three straight to Kincardine, resulting in a 3-1 loss.

In game #3 Sunday morning, the Rebels were considerably more energetic.  They dominated the play against Grey Highlands throughout the first two periods, but just couldn’t find the back of the net.  In the first minute of the third, the Shooting Stars got a rare shot on net and scored to go up 1-0.  With their position in the tournament on the line, the Rebels desperately needed to even up the score.  After Hannah Mustard stoned a Grey Highlands forward on a breakaway, veteran Skylar Golem picked up the puck, carried it out of the zone, and blew by everyone for a breakaway of her own.  Skylar outwaited the netminder, deked around her, and tucked it in the net as the goalie sprawled out to try to make the save.

And then the waiting began…all the Rebels needed was for someone, anyone, to win the game between Kincardine and South Bruce so that our team would have accumulated enough points to advance.  The girls anxiously watched the game.  They began to feel confident as Kincardine went up 2-0 in the first.  They felt considerably less confident when South Bruce came back to even the scoring, but were elated when South Bruce jumped out in front 5-3.  The girls cheered on the team that they would soon face in the finals.

With what would be her final game as a Rebel, Skylar Golem led the way in the championship, picking up a goal and three assists in a decisive 5-0 win.

At 6:00 in the first, after Golem and Thalen each attempted to fire the puck past the South Bruce goalie, Reese Wilkins took a turn and roofed the puck into the top of the net.  Just a few minutes later, Thalen would advance the puck to Golem who outhustled the Blades and wired a hard shot along the ice from the hash marks. 5-hole.  Rebels were up 2-0 after the first.

In the second period, Grace Kivell fired a bullet from the same location, but missed the net high and wide.  She zipped over to the other side of the net to pick up the ricochet off of the boards and popped the puck in the back of the net.

Thalen netted two goals in the third to round out the scoring, with Golem picking up assists on both and Wilkins adding another point.  The final goal was a 3 on 0 and Thalen batted in Golem’s rebound.

Hannah Mustard was stellar in net for the Rebels and earned the shutout with the help of her awesome D: Renee Farrow, Carly Acton, Brittany Batterman, Aly Airdrie, and Morgan Moran.
