The Drought is Over!
After going six games without scoring a goal, the Jennifer Tedford Remax Midget C's broke out of their funk, netting six against Owen Sound in league action on Saturday.

This roving reporter hasn't had a whole lot to write about these past few weeks. Prior to Saturday's game, the last time the Rebels got on the scoresheet for anything other than penalty was Feb. 3 in their Silver Stick game versus Kincardine.  The game ended in a 2-2 tie.  During that same tournament, the Rebels fell to the B.A.D. Blazers 3-0 and to the Lucknow Sepoys 2-0, with the latter being an excellent, evenly matched game.  Thanks to our generous sponsors Jennifer and Dave Tedford of Remax for the pizza delivery after our last game!

In the weeks following the tournament, the Midgets played two league games and two playdowns, resulting in three scoreless losses and one 0-0 tie.  The one constant for the Rebels, aside from being snake-bitten, was the outstanding play of goalie Hannah Mustard.

The girls certainly generated lots of chances during that stretch, but they were unable to capitalize...that was until Saturday rolled around!

Sammy DeJong got the Rebels on the board part way through the first period when she took a pass from Grace Kivell and fired a shot high into the top corner of the Ice Hawks net for the only goal of the period.

The Rebels blew the game wide open in the second.  At 12:18 of the period, Kivell skated the puck into the opposition's zone, around the back of their net, and delivered a perfect pass to Kyla Thalen who zipped a one-timer along the ice, five-hole.  Less than a minute later, Thalen, looking for her second of the game, whacked away at the puck in the Owen Sound crease, but it was Aly Airdrie who was finally able to deposit the rebound.  Three minutes later, Kivell directed a backhand towards the net and Madison Vokes was there for another rebound goal.   Late in the second, Vokes would pass the puck to Airdrie who skated her way through everybody and wired a wrister into the back of the net for her second of the game.  Owen Sound would add a goal of their own in the second, but the Rebels felt pretty confident going into the flood with a 5-1 lead.

That confidence was shaken a little when Owen Sound came out in the third and scored two unanswered goals.  Faith was restored, however, when Grace Kivell took the draw in the defensive end, shoveled the puck forward and carried it out of the zone. She then banked it off the boards, outhustled the defenders, deked out the goalie, and slid the puck into the back of the Ice Hawks net for her fourth point of the game.  Final score: 6-3 Rebels.

The Rebels next hit the ice on Friday night when they host the Saugeen Shores Storm.  Hopefully they can keep the goals coming!
