The Xtreme Heating Peewee C Girls had an exciting weekend in Lucknow. They made
it to the championship game of the year end WOAA White Division finals.
In their first game against Saugeen Shores HL Saugeen Shores surprised the Rebels and goalie Jaclyn Beirnes with a quick goal in the first.
Jayden Thalen answered back for the Rebels to make it 1-1. Jamie Norman and Cecily Mallette got the assists as they dug it out of our end and passed it up to Jayden who took it in from the red line and scored!
Not long after Lyndsay Cumming carried it in and passed it to Natalie Mole who shot into the top corner to make it 2-1 Rebels. Jamie Norman got her second assist of the game. Saugeen Shores kept making it tough on us as they tied it up again.
Finally, in the third Natalie Mole shot the puck in, and Zoe Schriek scored on the rebound. Lyndsay Cumming also assisted. The girls held onto it for a 3-2 final. Way to go girls!
Since their next game was at 2:30 the girls stayed at the arena, hung out and watched the other Peewee games while they ate pizza.
The 2:30 game was against Upper Maitland HL. Neither team was able to score in the first period. Jaclyn Beirnes kept it at 0 for the Rebels for most of the second as well! Upper Maitland finally got a goal but Lyndsay Cumming answered back with a Rebel goal, assisted by Cecily Mallette. Early in the third Natalie Mole drove the net and scored! She got the goalie stick in the head in thanks! Makaleyn Moore got the assist. Unfortunately, Upper Maitland got one back to make it a 2-2 final.
The win and the tie was enough to place us first in our pool so we were headed to the White Division championships on Sunday at 12:40 against Walkerton HL.
The girls played their hearts out and Jaclyn Beirnes made countless saves. Walkerton scored in the 1st period and then added a 2nd. The Rebels pulled their goalie in the last couple minutes to try to even it up. Walkerton took advantage and scored again on the empty net to make it a 3-0 final. The girls would have to settle for the SILVER medal in the White Division. Great job lady Rebels!
We are so proud of all the players and their efforts and improvement over the season. Thanks to all the parents for getting them to our practises and games. Thanks also to the amazing coaches and bench staff. The hours of time you have volunteered to help these young ladies develop their hockey skills and friendships will not be forgotten!
The players and coaches look forward to our fun game on Tuesday night at 6:00 in Keady. See you then!
