YOUNG CANADA WEEK - CONSOLATION CHAMPS

We're sad to say it's over ... but the 'Harold Sutherland Construction' PeeWee REP boys played their final games of the 2015-16 season last weekend in Goderich at the 67th ANNUAL YOUNG CANADA WEEK Tournament.
They represented TCDMHA well and in the 5 games played, the Rebels had a 3-1-1 record.
They return home with a BRONZE Medal, and the coveted Purple Banner that will be proudly displayed in the Keady arena with those from years past.

They worked as a team and each of these boys contributed everything they had in all 5 of the games, making their coaches and fans very proud.

Game 1 vs Central Perth  logo.png  5 - 2 WIN   (earned 4.5 points)
We got to see what the goalies were made of with almost a full period of end to end play.  The Rebels finally got on the board at 0:56 when Curtis Wade picked up the pass at the net and sent a beauty over the goal line, assisted by Jake Moran and Alex DeJong
Central Perth managed to tie it up midway through the 2nd, but Moran went coast to coast and took the lead back at 0:58, assisted by Austin King and Danny Rourke.
The game was tied again just 20 seconds into the 3rd, but a minute later Wade got a cross-ice pass to Moran who went down and sent a slapper flying into the net.
Moran managed to steal the puck, before it was cleared and completed the hat-trick at 5:15.
Kinger was sent in for a face-off after a collision on the ice sent our centre to the bench, and he forced the puck towards the net and snuck it over the goal line himself at 3:09.
Jason Rudolph-MacLeod was amazing in net and saw 35 shots.
Jake Moran was awarded the game MVP.

Game 2 vs Powassan  powassan_logo.png 3 - 1 WIN   (earned 4 points)
The tension was rising and so was our blood pressure as both the 1st and the 2nd periods went by scoreless.
Finally at 8:03 in the 3rd, Dylan Ledingham was able to clear the puck and sent it right to Moran who went coast to coast again with a high shot into the net.  Now to keep the lead . . .
Moran took another shot at the net and Wade was there for the rebound at 5:52.
The Hawks pulled their goalie, hungry for a goal and made it happen at 1:04 to bring our lead down to 1.
After a VERY brief rest on the bench (after crashing into the boards, racing for an icing), Kinger was back out in the final minute and secured the win with an empty net goal at 0:11.
Jason Rudolph-MacLeod stopped another 23 shots and was awarded the game MVP.

Game 3 vs Norwich
  norwich_logo.png   5 - 5 TIE   (earned 2.5 points)
The Knighthawks doubled the Rebels in shots-on-net, but yet again Jason was on his game and denied a whopping 50 shots.
Norwich did strike first at 5:16, but Kinger answered back to tie it 1 - 1 at 1:11 in the 1st, assisted by Pearce Lacey and Calvin Stewart.
Norwich took the lead back at 3:46 in the 2nd, but Moran wasn't far behind with one at 3:05, assisted by Wade and Ethan Harrison.
Unfortunately Norwich snuck another goal in before the buzzer to go up 3 - 2.
Before most of us got back to our seats, Moran tied it up with a beauty just 11 seconds into the 3rd.
They kept the pressure on.  Lacey cleared the puck up to Moran and he and DeJong skated in 2 on 1.  Moran sent the pass over to DeJong for a back-hander into the net at 10:08.  The Knighthawks soared in with a slap shot from the point, that no one saw coming and tied it again at 6:58.
The Rebels replied just 43 seconds later with an attack from Moran and Wade.  In a perfect set up, they both came in together and Moran centred the puck for Wade who was ready with a one-timer right through the 5 hole, assist to Jack Kivell.
The clock seemed to take forever to count down as the Rebels sat with a 5 - 4 lead, and in a desperate attempt for the tying goal, Norwich pulled their goalie and succeeded in sending one more over the line.
What a game!
The boys finished 2nd, just 0.5 point behind Norwich and headed to the Semi-Final against the 3rd place Lucknow team.
Curtis Wade was awarded the game MVP.

SEMI-FINAL vs Lucknow  lucknow_logo.gif 2 - 0 LOSS
Not much to say here, other than that golden horseshoe was definitely a lucky charm for the Sepoys' goalie in this game.  Our boys shot from every different angle, but nothing was getting by him.
After another scoreless 1st and 2nd, Lucknow did finally score on a breakaway early in the 3rd and added another at 10:48 ... to send our Rebels to the Bronze Medal game.

CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIP vs Central Perth
  logo.png  2 - 1 WIN
Just to keep the fans on the edge of their seats, we had another 2 periods of scoreless, end to end action.
Moran got loose, carried the puck down and fired high blocker side to get the Rebels on the board at 13:37 in the 3rd, assisted by Wade and Wesley Houston.
Central Perth tied it up on a power-play at 12:03.  This Young Canada Week Tournament is notorious for it's overtime Championship games, and it looked like it might happen again this year.
Our offense never let up and Jason and our defense were determined to keep the puck out of our net.
DeJong fed Moran and he blasted through the C.P. defense straight at the net.  He let it go high blocker side again and the REBELS were in the lead!
The final 7:40 lasted way too long, but the boys were able to hold on for the WIN.
