Atoms With Attitude at Provincials!
The “Desboro Lion’s Club” TCDMHA Atom Girls travelled to Toronto to participate in the OWHA championship tournament on the weekend. They played hard on and off the ice and made memories that will last a lifetime! These terrific, young ladies have dedicated their entire season to improving and doing their best and their hard working "attitudes" definitely showed on the weekend!

Their first game was at 8:00 am on Friday morning in Etobicoke so they decided to carry on last year’s tradition of a 6:00 am polar dip in the pool to wake everyone up!  The girls all jumped together, dried off and then had a healthy breakfast before heading to the game.

Game 1 vs. Zorra Fuzion

The Rebels came out strong but the first period remained scoreless. Goalie, Allison Hoy made some great saves to keep them going. Late in the second Claire Vokes took control and skated in to score unassisted. Shortly after Lyndsay Cumming scored as well, assisted by Natalie Mole to make it 2-0 for the Rebels.  Zorra was not going to let this go unanswered and scored two quick goals at the end of the second and the start of the third. The Rebels kept digging however and Natalie Madill drove one home to make it 3-2 for the Rebels.  Her goal was assisted by Claire Vokes and Cecily Mallette.

Game 2 vs. St. Thomas Panthers

The girls knew that St. Thomas would be a good team and got themselves pumped up in the dressing room before the game. The Rebels played evenly with them in the first period and it ended with a 2-1 score for St. Thomas.  Lyndsay Cumming had scored to tie up the game assisted by Claire Vokes before St. Thomas scored again.  Unfortunately, St. Thomas got four more goals in a fairly short time period in the second period.  This deflated the girls a bit but Allison made a good save on the next shot and they lifted their heads and powered to the other end with the turnover to score. Lyndsay Cumming passed it in to Grace Madill who scored.  St. Thomas scored one more but so did we!  Zoey Schriek and Natalie Mole passed it in to Natalie Madill who scored our third goal of the game to make it a 7-3 final.

The Rebels went out for a team dinner Friday night to celebrate their hard work. They made plans for the polar dip and breakfast again and went to bed at curfew.

Game 3 vs. Carleton Place Cyclones

Carleton Place was the toughest team in our pool and went on to become the Atom C Silver Medalists.  Despite this the girls worked their hardest and Allison made countless saves.  In the first period Carleton Place’s set plays, perfect passing and fast legs overwhelmed TCDMHA and they scored four goals.  Chatsworth did not give up though and Natalie Mole carried the puck in from her defensive position, put it on the net and scored! The Rebels held them to only three goals in the second.  Allison made a valiant attempt and kept working hard even after getting hurt in the third.  The girls were running out of steam against three lines and it showed in the third as they gave up six more goals.  Lyndsay Cumming made one final push and scored unassisted to make it a 13-2 loss for the Rebels.

Thanks for all the memories girls. For a young and small team you should be very proud of all your accomplishments. You finished third in the WOAA and qualified for Provincials!!  We would also like to thank our amazing bench staff and all our parents, fans and Al and Paul at the Desboro arena who supported us over the year.

Thank you poem for you, Mom and Dad

I know you've spent hours waiting in stands
Thanks for enduring cold feet and cold hands.
Volunteering and scheduling your time so precise
Thanks for the pep talks and pre-game advice.
When I look in the crowd, I search for your faces
Thanks for taping my sticks, and tying my laces.
Jerseys and socks and pads head to toe
Thanks for them all and more as I grow.
Each goal and each save is met by your cheers
Thanks for tending the wounds, and wiping the tears.
When I make a mistake or in the box rest
Thanks for believing that I'm still the best.
You seem to understand for what I am striving
Thanks for buyin the gas, and doing the driving.
When my team has done poorly and you want to lay blame
Thanks for remembering...it's only a game.
And when the day comes that my hockey life ends
Thanks for surrounding me with such valuable friends

your daughter.

The Atoms would also like to CONGRATULATE the Peewees on winning the Gold Medal and the Bantams on winning the Silver Medal.  WAY TO GO!!
