ATOM AE Comes Home Proud!!!
The Homelife Bayside Realty ATOM AE Rebels knew what they had to do...
The MINTO REP Maddogs had NOT been scored on in all 5 of their WOAA Playoff games, so the Rebels weren't coming home from Harriston until they did just that!!!
It took 3 full periods, but they pulled it off. The first 2 periods were scoreless as both Jason Rudolph-MacLeod and Tyler MacLean (Minto) were fabulous in their nets, and the whole Rebels team played together to defend Jason.
Minto scored early in the 3rd period to take the 1 - 0 lead, and you could see the Rebels' hunger for a goal with every shot they took. It wasn't until 3 minutes left in the game that Jack Kivell got a pass to Jakob Moran in our own end and like a man on a mission, Jakob skated by the defence and buried it high in the Minto net!
That is all they came to do...but unfortunately it couldn't stay a tie!
Into OT they went...and as with 3 other questionable penalties called on the Rebels that game...we were given another, just 15 seconds into the overtime period...9 seconds later...Minto scored to win the game 2 - 1.
The boys were playing for Clayton, who wasn't able to play his last game of the season due to a suspension from the first Minto match-up that saw the boys fall 7 - 0. The Johnson family made the drive to Harriston anyway to cheer on the team, along with many other dedicated Rebels fans.
It was a great end to a busy season that saw the AE boys improve so much, as they competed in league games against tough REP teams.
They finished their year with three impressive accomplishments ...
SilverStick Semi-Finalists, OMHA Quarter-Finalists and WOAA AE Group 4 & 5 CHAMPS.
Thanks to Coach Ken, Coach Geoff and Coach Mark for making this year so enjoyable for the boys!
